Dress for Success

Dress for SuccessThe Apartment Association of Kansas City has teamed up with a new group in Kansas City called “Dress for Success”.   The Public Relations committee is promoting “Spring Cleaning” for our members and their residents.  We are asking that donations of Suits or Dress apparel be dropped off at the following locations:

  • Dunes at Eastland Center
  • Market Station
  • The Crossings at Barry Road
  • AMLI at Lexington Farms
  • Cort

AAKC is also planning to help with career counseling, resume preparation, email responses, and store staffing.

The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Founded in New York City in 1998, Dress for Success is an international non-for-profit offering services designed to help our clients find jobs and remain employed.  Each Dress for Success client receives one suit when she has a job interview and can return for a second suit or separates when she finds work.

Dress for Success relies on the financial contributions, in-kind donations, volunteer efforts of individuals and companies around the world who are committed to helping woman take charge of their lives.  Visit www.dressforsuccess.org for more information on “Dress for Success”.

Ronald McDonald House

Ronald McDonald HouseIn 2010, the Apartment Association of Kansas City is partnering once again with the Ronald McDonald House to help by:

  • Sponsoring monthly dinners for the children and families who are staying at the Ronald McDonald house during medical treatment.
  • AAKC is collecting keys for Ronald McDonald house.  Any used keys that the properties aren’t able to use are recyclable through Ronald McDonald house.
  • AAKC is collecting pop tops again this year.   Each property will put out containers asking their residents to collect pop tops.   The property who wins will receive a Pizza Party for their employees and their picture in local apartment magazines as well as the AAKC website.  In 2009 AAKC collected over 50 pounds of pop tops.  1 pound of pop tops = 1 night stay at the Ronald McDonald House.
  • Craft nights – During the year, AAKC members have taken crafts to the children to participate in making different craft items.  This has been great fun for the children and the AAKC member participating.   We hope to do a few of these craft nights each year during the holidays.

AAKC is also talking to the representatives of Ronald McDonald House to possibly sponsor a month of meals.  Each management company/property will take one night in June or July to help feed the families. Each management company/property will be responsible for bringing in the meal, preparing it, cleaning up, etc.  This is a great way to meet individuals who are need of a little extra kindness. AAKC members have been great about volunteering their time to help and we appreciate the Public Relations committee and the other members who have been down to the house helping.
