Community Outreach Committee

Giving back to our community is an important part of the AAKC. Our Community Outreach Committee identifies opportunities for community involvement and educates the association members of the importance of community outreach.

The Apartment Association of Kansas City encourages support through volunteer and philanthropic initiatives and seeks to enhance public awareness of these efforts.

This committee is broken down into 4 sub-committees that work with different organizations in the Kansas City Metro:

  1. Operation Breakthrough – Kevin Compton &  Jennifer Gonzalez, Co-Chairs  Operation Breakthrough provides a safe, loving and educational environment for children in poverty and empowers their families through advocacy, emergency aid and education. The sub-committee hosts three primary events each year, a wine drive in the spring, volunteering at the OB Summer Carnival in July, and volunteering at the OB Christmas Warehouse in December.
  2. Synergy – Michelle Evans, Chair
Synergy Services is domestic violence center and children’s center in the Northland where people escaping an abusive home receive shelter, food, personal care products, access to public transportation and assistance with legal matters and life skills. This sub-committee hosts four events each year, typically around holiday based events for their residents at Halloween and Christmas, outdoor yard clean up days, and a donation drive.
  3. Care Packages– Michelle Evans, Chair
This subcommittee puts together care packages of essential items (shampoo, toothbrush, deodorant, etc) and delivers them to properties when there is a flood or fire.
  4. Community Linc - Joe Shelton, Chair
Community Linc is a provider for homeless services in the Kansas City metropolitan area.  They provide transitional housing at their Kansas City campus and work with volunteers to teach residents life skills like financial literacy and job readiness.  This sub-committee hosts 3-4 events each year to prepare units for new families and build relationships with current residents.

If you are seeking ways to network, give back to the community and be involved with the Association, this is the committee for you!
